Galatians 4:9

But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?

Galatians 4:9 · Wisdom
Reflection 1

Isn't it strange how we can taste real freedom and still feel the pull to go back to our old way of living? Maybe it's an old habit, a cycle of worry, or the exhausting effort to earn everyone's approval. Paul's pointed question to the Galatians is one worth asking ourselves: why would we choose chains when freedom has already been given to us?

Reflection 2

Notice the heart of this verse: the most important thing isn't even that we know God — it's that He knows us. Before you ever reached for Him, He had already claimed you and made you His own. That means your standing with God doesn't rise and fall with your good days or your bad ones.

Reflection 3

So today, ask yourself honestly: what am I turning back to when life gets hard? Do I numb out, try to control everything, keep people happy, or attempt to be good enough on my own? Naming those old patterns is the first step to walking away from them.

Reflection 4

Then practice running forward instead of backward. When the old pull comes, pause and pray, remind yourself that you are fully known and loved by God, and take one small step of trust. Freedom isn't just something you received once — it's something you get to walk in every single day.

Prayer

Father, thank You for knowing me completely and loving me anyway. When I feel the pull back to my old ways, remind me of who I am in You and help me stand firm in the freedom You've given me. I choose to walk with You today. Amen.
