and kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy; because Yahweh had made them joyful, and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, to strengthen their hands in the work of God, the God of Israel’s house.
After years of opposition, delay, and discouragement, God's people finally finished rebuilding His house. And what did they do? They celebrated for seven whole days—with joy. Not the kind of joy they worked up on their own, but joy God Himself placed in their hearts.
Notice where their joy came from: God moved on the heart of a foreign king to help them instead of hinder them. The same God who can turn a king's heart can turn your difficult situation around. Your joy doesn't have to depend on people cooperating with you or circumstances lining up perfectly.
So how do we live this out today? First, celebrate what God has already done. Plan a moment of thanksgiving this week—a special meal, a gratitude list, a story shared with your family. Don't rush past God's faithfulness without marking it.
Second, keep working with joyful hands. The people celebrated in the middle of ongoing responsibilities, not after everything was finished. Ask God to strengthen your hands for today's task, whether that's your job, your family, or a ministry He's placed in front of you. Joy and hard work were never meant to be enemies.
Father, thank You that true joy comes from You and not from my circumstances. Turn the hearts of people around me in ways only You can, and strengthen my hands for the work You've given me. Help me celebrate Your goodness today with a glad heart. Amen.
