Exodus 10:3

God asked Pharaoh the same question over and over: how long will you refuse to humble yourself? Each plague was another chance to soften, and each time Pharaoh dug in deeper. Pride has a way of doing that. It doesn't announce itself loudly; it just quietly hardens us every time God asks us to bend.

Most of us won't face a burning plagues scenario, but we face smaller versions every day. Pride shows up when we refuse to apologize first, when we cling to a plan God is clearly redirecting, or when we hear a sermon about forgiveness and think of someone else instead of ourselves. Sometimes we even hold onto worry and control simply because letting go feels like admitting we're not in charge.

Here's a simple practice: ask God at the end of each day, "Where was I stubborn today?" Then respond quickly when He shows you. Send the text. Make the call. Admit you were wrong. The longer we delay, the harder our hearts get—but humility works the other way too. Every small surrender makes the next one easier.

Notice what God said next: "Let my people go, that they may serve me." Humility isn't about being walked on or thinking less of yourself. It's about being freed up to serve the One who actually knows best. Pharaoh's grip cost him everything, but an open hand before God opens the door to real purpose.

So today, loosen your grip. Whatever God has been nudging you to release—a grudge, a habit, a need to be right—let it go. Humility before Him is never a loss. It's always the beginning of freedom.

Father, search my heart and show me where pride has quietly hardened me. Give me the courage to release what I've been gripping and to respond quickly when You speak. I want to humble myself before You today, so I can serve You freely. Amen.
