Notice the urgency in these words: "Why do you wait?" There was no checklist to complete, no waiting period, no proving himself first. God's forgiveness was ready, and the only thing standing in the way was the decision to get up and receive it. That same urgency applies to us today.
Many of us carry guilt from things we did years ago or just last week. We replay our mistakes and quietly assume we need to clean ourselves up before coming to God. But the invitation here is the opposite: the washing happens when we come to Him, not before.
So what does this look like in real life? If you have been putting off following Jesus, waiting for the perfect moment, stop waiting. The moment is now. And if you are a believer still dragging around old shame, take God at His word today. Name the sin, call on His name, and leave it there.
Forgiveness is not a feeling you sit around hoping to one day have. It is a gift you actively receive. Get up, reach out, and let God do what He has promised to do: make you clean.
Dear Lord, thank You that Your forgiveness is available right now, not someday after I get my act together. Help me stop delaying and bring my sin honestly to You. Wash me clean and give me courage to rise and live as Yours today. Amen.
