Acts 15:29

When the early church leaders wrote to new believers, they gave them a short, clear list of things to walk away from. Not to make life miserable, but to keep their hearts clean and their witness strong. From the very beginning, God's people have understood that purity is protection, not punishment.

Today, idolatry rarely looks like a statue on a shelf. It looks like anything we run to for security, identity, or comfort instead of God, whether that is money, approval, a habit, or even good things that have become too big in our hearts. A honest question to ask yourself this week is simple: what has the strongest grip on me?

Purity also touches our bodies and our relationships. In a culture that treats sex casually and splashes temptation across every screen, God still calls us to a higher standard. That might mean setting clear boundaries in a dating relationship, filtering what you watch, or being honest with a trusted friend about a struggle you have kept hidden.

Here is the promise tucked into this instruction: when you keep yourself from what defiles you, it will go well with you. Saying no is not missing out; it is guarding something precious. A clean heart brings peace, a clear conscience, and a closeness with God that nothing else can replace.

Father, show me anything in my life that competes with You or stains my purity. Give me the courage to walk away from it and the strength to live clean before You. Thank You that Your boundaries are always for my good. Amen.
