But John, an old man writing to a friend, said his greatest joy came from something completely different: knowing that the people he loved were living by God's truth.

That's a heart check for all of us. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, mentor, or friend, there's a deeper joy waiting when you care about someone's walk with God more than their accomplishments. It changes how you pray, how you listen, and what you celebrate.

So here's a practical step for today: pay attention and celebrate the small stuff. When your child tells the truth when it's hard, or a friend chooses forgiveness, or someone you've encouraged takes a step of faith—notice it, name it, and thank God for it. A simple text like "I'm proud of how you're living" can carry someone for weeks.

And remember, the people you love mostly catch what you live, not what you say. Walk in truth yourself today—honestly, humbly, consistently—and you'll be planting the very seeds that will one day be your greatest joy.

One more thing: don't limit this to family. Maybe God has placed someone in your life who needs a spiritual mentor, or maybe you need one. Real joy multiplies when we invest in people, not just provide for them.

Father, help me to love the people in my life the way John did—caring most about their walk with You. Show me one person I can encourage today, and help me live Your truth so clearly that others catch it. Thank You that real joy comes from You and the people You've given me. Amen.
