2 Timothy 2:4

Paul gives us the picture of a soldier on active duty. A good soldier travels light and stays alert. He can't chase every opportunity or get tangled up in side matters, because his commander's mission comes first.

Most of us aren't distracted by bad things. We're distracted by good things: extra commitments, endless scrolling, other people's opinions, and worries about tomorrow. Slowly, the main thing God has actually called us to gets crowded out.

Try this today: name the one or two things God has placed in front of you right now, like your family, your work, a person you're praying for, or a task He's asked of you. Then look honestly at your calendar and your phone. What is competing with those things? Sometimes saying no to something good is how we say yes to God.

Focus is not about doing less just for the sake of less. It's about pleasing the One who enlisted you. He called you on purpose, for a purpose, and He doesn't need you scattered. He needs you faithful.

So stay on duty today. Keep your gear light, your eyes forward, and your heart listening for your Commander's voice.

Dear Lord, thank You for calling me to serve You. Help me lay down the distractions that pull me away from what You've asked of me. Keep my eyes on You today and my heart ready to obey. Amen.
