Having many things to write to you, I don’t want to do so with paper and ink, but I hope to come to you and to speak face to face, that our joy may be made full.
John had plenty to say, but he knew some things just can't be delivered in writing. He wanted to sit down, look his friends in the eye, and share life with them in person. That's a good reminder for us: some of the deepest joy in life doesn't come through a screen or a note. It comes through showing up.
Think about your own life today. How many of your closest relationships run mostly on quick texts and short messages? Convenience is helpful, but it rarely fills the heart. Is there someone you've been meaning to reach out to who deserves more than a text?
Try this week to trade one digital message for real presence. Call instead of texting. Stop by for a visit. Invite someone to coffee and put your phone away while you're together. It takes more effort, but that effort is exactly where joy grows.
Also notice that John says "our joy" - not just mine. Full joy is something we build together. Don't wait for others to reach out first. Be the one who initiates, and watch how God uses your presence to lift someone else's heart, including your own.
Father, forgive me for settling for easy connection when the people I love need my real presence. Give me the courage and time this week to show up for someone face to face. Make our joy full as we share life together. Amen.
