Paul wrote these words while his life was anything but easy. He faced pressure, conflict, and real suffering, yet he says he is overflowing with joy. That tells us something important: joy is not the absence of trouble. It is something deeper that trouble cannot touch.

Great is my boldness of speech toward you. Great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I overflow with joy in all our affliction.
Notice where Paul's joy came from. He was thinking about people he loved, celebrating what God was doing in them, and finding comfort in those relationships. Sometimes the fastest way out of a heavy heart is to shift our focus off our own problems and onto the people God has placed around us.
Try this today: pick one person and genuinely encourage them. Tell them you are proud of them, thank them, or point out something good God is doing in their life. Paul's words about the Corinthians were not empty flattery. He truly delighted in them, and that delight fed his own joy.
And when affliction shows up, whether it is a hard week, bad news, or a long battle you are tired of fighting, remember that God offers comfort right in the middle of it. Joy is not pretending everything is fine. It is trusting that God is still working even when circumstances look dark. So look for one small thing to thank Him for today, and let that thanks become a doorway to joy.
Dear Lord, thank You that Your joy does not depend on my circumstances. Help me to find Your comfort in the middle of my struggles today, and give me the words to encourage someone You have placed in my life. Fill me with a joy that overflows. Amen.
