For I am afraid that perhaps when I come, I might find you not the way I want to, and that I might be found by you as you don’t desire, that perhaps there would be strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, whisperings, proud thoughts, or riots,

2 Corinthians 12:20 · Wisdom
Reflection 1

Paul had a father's heart for the people he loved, and here he opens up about a real worry: what would he find when he showed up? Notice that almost everything on his list is relational. Jealousy, anger, gossip, division, pride. These aren't dramatic sins; they're the quiet ones that slip into ordinary life and slowly poison a family, a workplace, or a church.

Reflection 2

That's worth sitting with, because these same things sneak into our days too. The side comment about a coworker. The resentment toward a friend who got what we wanted. The argument we keep alive because we'd rather be right than be at peace. None of these feel huge in the moment, but they shape who we become.

Reflection 3

So here's some practical wisdom: before you speak today, pause and ask if your words will build someone up or tear them down. If you feel jealousy rising, name it honestly before God and then pray a real blessing over that person. And when conflict comes, ask yourself whether winning the argument is worth losing the relationship.

Reflection 4

We can't control what others do, but we can control what they find when they come to us. Imagine someone arriving at your door, your desk, or your conversation and walking away lighter because of how you treated them. That's the kind of person worth becoming, and God is glad to help you get there.

Prayer

Father, search my heart today and show me any jealousy, anger, or pride hiding there. Help me choose words and actions that bring peace instead of division. Make me someone whose presence encourages others and honors You. Amen.
