Lay hands hastily on no one. Don’t be a participant in other people’s sins. Keep yourself pure.
In Paul's day, placing your hands on someone was a public way of saying that you vouched for them. It was a serious endorsement, not a casual gesture. We do something similar today whenever we recommend a person for a job, partner in a deal, promote a cause, or share something online. Our approval carries weight.
That is why hasty endorsements are dangerous. If we quickly attach our name to someone who turns out to be dishonest or harmful, we become part of their mess. A careless yes can make us a participant in sins we never personally committed.
So practice the discipline of slowness. Pray before you commit, ask honest questions, and watch how a person treats people who can do nothing for them. It is far better to disappoint someone with a careful not yet than to compromise your integrity with a rushed yes.
Remember that purity is bigger than avoiding obvious sins. It also includes what you approve, who you align with, and where you let your influence be used. Guard your name and your witness, because both belong to the Lord.
Father, make me slow to endorse and quick to pray. Give me discernment in my partnerships and courage to say no when something is not right, so my heart and my witness stay pure before You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
