But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.

1 Peter 4:13 · Joy
Reflection 1

Peter isn't writing to people having an easy week. His readers were losing friends, reputations, and sometimes their homes because they followed Jesus. And yet he tells them to rejoice when they suffer for it. That sounds strange until you realize what he knows: suffering for Christ is not proof that God has forgotten you. It's proof that you're His.

Reflection 2

Here's what that looks like in real life. When you're left out at work because of your honesty, when friends roll their eyes at your faith, when doing the right thing costs you something — pause before you get bitter. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” try asking, “Am I walking where Jesus walked?” If the answer is yes, that pain has meaning.

Reflection 3

This kind of joy isn't pretending everything is fine. It's not fake smiles or acting like it doesn't hurt. It's the quiet confidence that Christ is closest to you in your hardest moments, and that He went through suffering first. You're not being punished. You're being shaped into His likeness.

Reflection 4

And there's more coming. Peter points us to a day when Jesus returns and every hard thing finally makes sense. The joy of that moment will be overwhelming — worth every tear, every loss, every lonely stretch of the road. So when life gets heavy today, remind yourself: this pain is temporary, but the joy ahead is everlasting.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You that I never suffer alone and that my pain is never wasted. Help me to rejoice today, even in the hard things, because I belong to You and Your glory is coming. Make my joy steady and real. Amen.
