We love him, because he first loved us.

1 John 4:19 · Love
Reflection 1

Isn't it freeing to know that our love for God didn't start with us? He reached out first. Before you ever prayed a prayer or sang a song, God was already loving you completely. That means your relationship with Him isn't built on your performance—it's built on His love.

Reflection 2

This matters most on the hard days. Some mornings you'll wake up and feel far from God, maybe even numb. On those days, don't try to manufacture warm feelings. Instead, simply remember that His love for you hasn't changed one bit, and let that truth draw you back to Him.

Reflection 3

This verse also changes how we treat people. If God loved us before we deserved it, we can love others before they deserve it too. That might mean being the first to forgive, the first to say hello, or the first to apologize—even when the other person hasn't done anything to earn it.

Reflection 4

Here's a simple way to live this out today: pick one person who has been difficult to love, and take one small step toward them anyway. A text, a kind word, a quiet act of kindness. When you love first, you're doing exactly what God did for you.

Reflection 5

And when you struggle to feel that love, run to the cross. That's where His love was proven once and for all—not as a feeling, but as a fact you can build your whole life on.

Prayer

Father, thank You for loving me before I ever thought of You. Help me rest in Your love on the days I feel distant, and give me the courage to love others first, just as You loved me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
