We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
It's one thing to know facts about God, and another to actually rest in His love for you personally. This verse invites you to move love from your head to your heart. God's love isn't something you earn by being good enough today. It's already yours, settled and secure.
Remaining in God's love sounds abstract, but it's really just staying connected. Talk to Him throughout your day, not only in the morning. When stress hits or you're tempted to compare yourself to others, pause and remember you are loved by the God who made you.
This truth also changes how you treat people. If God remains in you, His love should spill out into patience with a difficult coworker, gentleness with your family, and forgiveness for someone who hurt you. Love isn't just a feeling to have. It's something you do, one small choice at a time.
When you feel unlovable or far from God, don't chase after feelings. Return to the truth instead: He loved you first, and nothing that happens today can change that. Live from that love, not for it.
Dear Lord, thank You that Your love for me is steady and sure, even when my feelings waver. Help me remain in Your love today and let it flow out to everyone I meet. Amen.
