My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
It's easy to say loving words. We text a friend "praying for you!" or tell someone "let me know if you need anything." Those words aren't bad, but John reminds us that real love doesn't stop at our lips. It shows up in what we actually do.
So here's a practical question: who in your life needs love in action this week? Maybe it's an elderly neighbor whose trash cans need bringing in. Maybe it's a friend going through a hard season who needs a meal, not just a like on their post. Love gets specific.
Love in truth also means being honest and dependable. It's showing up when it's inconvenient, not just when it fits your schedule. It's following through on what you said you'd do, even when the excitement wears off.
Here's your challenge for today: pick one person and do one concrete act of love before the day is over. Make the call. Drop off the meal. Write the note. Don't just feel love today — do it.
And remember, you're not doing this alone. God loved you first in the biggest way possible, and His love in you is what makes your love real.
Dear Lord, thank You for loving me with actions, not just words. Help me today to love someone in a real, hands-on way. Show me who needs Your love through me, and give me the courage to follow through. Amen.
