1 John 2:12

A lot of us live like our forgiveness is still up for debate. We drag yesterday's mistakes into today like unpaid bills. But John didn't write to perfect people. He wrote to ordinary believers and told them, in plain words, that their sins are already forgiven — settled, finished, past tense.

Notice why we're forgiven: not because we cleaned ourselves up, but for His name's sake. That means your forgiveness rests on Jesus, not on your performance. You can't earn it by feeling bad enough, and you can't lose it by having a rough week.

So today, when an old failure resurfaces — the conversation you regret, the habit you're ashamed of — don't reopen a case God has already closed. Say it out loud if you need to: that sin has been dealt with. Rehearsing forgiven sin doesn't make you humble; it just keeps you staring at the past instead of walking forward.

And let this forgiveness shape how you treat others. If God wiped your slate clean when you didn't deserve it, you can extend grace to the person who hurt you. Forgiven people forgive — start small if you have to, but start today.

Dear Lord, thank You that my forgiveness is settled in Jesus and doesn't depend on my good days or my bad ones. Help me stop trying to repay a debt You already paid, and give me the grace to forgive others the way You have forgiven me. Amen.
