Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border! May your hand be with me, and may you keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” God granted him that which he requested.
Jabez was named for pain, yet he refused to let his past define his future. Instead of shrinking back, he prayed a bold, specific prayer and asked God for big things. That's the first challenge for us today: God is not annoyed by our asking. He invites it.
Notice what Jabez asked for—not just more stuff, but more territory, more influence, more room to live out God's purpose. Ask yourself: where in your life have you settled for small? Maybe it's your career, your relationships, or your willingness to serve. Pray for God to stretch you beyond your comfort zone.
Jabez also asked for God's hand to be with him. Enlargement without God's presence just leads to stress and burnout. Before you chase bigger opportunities, make sure you're walking closely with the One who opens the doors.
Finally, he asked to be kept from evil and from causing pain to others. Real prosperity isn't just about what you gain—it's about who you become. Ask God to guard your heart, your words, and your choices so your growth blesses people instead of hurting them.
